Top3 Cinemas in Bangkok?

Hi fellas,

What are your top 3 cinemas in BKK currently? Not explicitly asking about the most expensive, but the ones with an overall great vibe.

Appreciate it, thanks

ngl the IMAX at Siam Paragon is still the best screen in the city for big blockbusters, the sound system is genuinely overwhelming. but my personal fave is the little Apex cinema on Siam Square, it's hilariously run down with weird seats and the smell of old popcorn but tickets are like 80 baht and you feel like you're in 1995 again. for a date night though, the Embassy Diplomat Screens at Central Embassy are way nicer than Paragon's ones, less crowded and the seats are basically beds with blankets

I would put Quartier Cineart at EmQuartier up there. The screens are smaller but the picture quality is excellent and the leather seats recline way back, which makes a long movie much more comfortable. For something a bit different, check out SF World Cinema at CentralWorld, they have a nice balance of mainstream and indie stuff and the crowds tend to be less rowdy than at Paragon. And if you want a true hidden gem, the little cinema at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre has a cool arthouse vibe and tickets are only 100 baht.

For a proper old-school vibe I'd say Scala in Siam Square, it's got that retro feel no other place has. For comfy seats and good screens, Major Cineplex at Paragon is usually solid. And if you want something more chill with decent food options, House Samyan is a nice spot.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
