Hi. I'll be in Bangkok for 3 days and I'm looking for some good places to eat (street food), and explore the city by Walk (I love doing that in a new city).

Was curious to know what are some good places to just be out there and walk freely.. like ancient Town, market, etc..

I'm not looking to explore any temples, museums, architecture etc.. so I'm looking for food and good Walk and chill spots in the city.

honestly for walking and eating you cant beat the area around bangsue junction, its like a hidden gem for street food stalls that spill onto the sidewalks. theres this stretch near the old railway market that has killer grilled pork skewers for like 10 baht each, and the walk from there to the river feels super local, no tourists at all. not sure if u know but the soi nana area in chinatown is also good for wandering during the day, its less chaotic than yaowarat but still has that old school vibe with random fruit vendors and tiny noodle shops tucked in alleys

For a good walk with street food, head to Yaowarat Road in Chinatown at night, the whole area is packed with stalls and it's chaos in the best way. Also check out the area around Charoen Krung Road, it's got a mix of old shophouses and random cafes popping up, real chill to wander.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
