Hi, My mum is in the ICU in Bangkok hospital (the biggest one) and I'm staying at a hotel across the road.

Visiting is limited so I'm trying to workout what is kind of nearby/within short taxi or 30-40min walking distance that I can go to get massage or grab some food between visiting.

From what I've searched and read it might be a little way from the main tourist spots?

Thanks for your help.

fwiw there's a decent little food court inside the hospital itself on the ground floor near the pharmacy, not amazing but fine for a quick meal without having to leave the building. the khao tom (rice soup) stall there is actually pretty good for something light

if you want proper coffee there's a cafe called kaizen on new petchburi soi 9, about a 5 min walk from the hospital entrance. they do good iced lattes and have AC which is a lifesaver in this heat. wifi works well too if you need to kill time

for a proper meal without going far, walk towards the ratchaprarop intersection and there's a small muslim restaurant on the left side called jay fai (not the famous one). their roti massaman is legit and it's like 60 baht. open til about 8pm usually

if you walk down towards ratchathewi bts there's a little soi on the left with a bunch of vietnamese places, the one with the yellow sign does a mean banh mi for like 40 baht. grab one and sit in santiphap park nearby, it's a 10 min walk and way more peaceful than the hospital cafe

for massage there's a place on soi rong muang called nuad thai, it's a bit of a walk maybe 25 mins but they do proper oil massage for 300 baht and it's quiet enough to actually nap during it. the owner used to work at wat po so she knows her stuff

if you need a break from hospital vibes the suan pakkad palace museum is like a 15 min walk from the hospital, small and usually empty on weekdays. nice gardens to sit in and it's only 100 baht entry. good for clearing your head between visits

honestly the area around bangkok hospital isn't as dead as people make it sound. if you walk down soi siam square (about 15 min towards national stadium) there's a tiny japanese curry shop called coco ichibanya that's open late, really hits the spot when you just need something comforting and fast

for massage there's a place on soi petchburi 19 called sabai sabai, it's a bit hidden behind a 7-eleven but they do proper thai massage for like 250 baht an hour. quieter than health land and the ladies there are really nice, i've been going for years

if you're up for a longer walk (25-30 min) head towards phyathai plaza, there's a food court on the 3rd floor that's pretty empty during weekday afternoons. good northern thai food at the stall on the left, the khao soi is solid. way less stressful than the tourist spots and you can sit there as long as you want

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
