Hey community,

I will be moving (alone) to Bangkok for a 1 year work contract and looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom appartment. Company will cover the rental cost. I need to decide where and I am having quite the difficulty also since I have not been to BKK yet. Here would be some important points:

Not more than a 20 min commute to Samyan station

Bars and restaurants and social scene

Optional close to a park (else I'll go there on the weekend)

Not within a night life district

Thank you for any input.

If you want to stay close to Samyan and avoid the nightlife noise, the area around Sala Daeng BTS but on the Rama IV side is worth a look. There's a cluster of older luxury buildings on Sathon Tai between the BTS and the expressway that have proper 2-3 bedroom floor plans, and it's a 10 minute walk to Samyan through the Chulalongkorn University backstreets. The social scene here is more about the restaurants and wine bars on Sathon Soi 1 and the little soi behind the Bangkok Bank headquarters, rather than clubs or loud music. For a park, you've got Lumphini at the far end of Sathon, about a 15 minute walk or a quick motorbike ride.

honestly with that budget and the samyan commute you should check out the area around hua lampong station. it's a bit older and grittier but there are some solid older condos with 2-3 bedrooms near the river that get overlooked. you can walk to samyan in like 10-15 mins through the little soi network behind chula, and the riverfront bars on charoen krung road have a totally different vibe than the thonglor scene. just avoid anything on silom soi 2 or 4 for the nightlife noise

With that budget, you're in a good spot. Look at the Sathorn area between Surasak and Chong Nonsi BTS stations, it's a 15 minute taxi or motorbike ride to Samyan. You've got Soi Sathorn 10 and 12 with a lot of wine bars and restaurants that feel more like a neighborhood than a party zone, and Lumphini Park is a 10 minute walk from the bottom of Sathorn Road. Just avoid anything directly on Silom or Surawong, those are the nightlife strips you want to skip.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
