Considering moving to Bangkok in the next year or so and I'm googling a bunch but struggling to find some advice around using grab motorbike service.

I am 6ft3 120kg with quite wide shoulders. I am wondering if i may be too big to be a passenger on a grab bike?

Any advice would be great. I never needed to use the service in the past when travelling as was close to everything.

You'll probably fit but it won't be comfortable. Most Grab Bike drivers ride Honda Waves or similar 125cc bikes, and the passenger seat is tiny. At your size you'll be hanging off the back and the driver will feel it too. Some drivers might just cancel when they see you. If you're set on motorbike taxis, try requesting GrabBike Premium or just flag down a regular motorcycle taxi at a stand where they often use bigger bikes like the Honda PCX. But honestly for daily commuting at your size, I'd stick with the BTS or a Grab Car. The 40-60 baht you save per trip on a bike isn't worth being uncomfortable and risking a driver who can't handle the weight.

yeah the other guys covered it pretty well but one thing nobody mentioned is the helmet situation. Grab drivers carry one helmet for the passenger and it's usually a universal size, at your build that thing is gonna sit on top of your head like a yarmulke. I've seen guys your size riding pillion on a Wave and the helmet barely covers their forehead, not exactly safe if you ask me.

if you really want the wind in your hair (metaphorically) try the BTS skytrain extension routes where they have those bigger bike stands. on the Phra Khanong side near W District there's a group of riders on PCX and Aerox bikes, they'll take you anywhere in the city for 50-80 baht and the seats actually have room for someone with shoulders. just walk up and point where you're going, no app needed

for daily commuting tho honestly just use the BTS or MRT, the monthly pass is like 1500 baht and you won't have to deal with drivers giving you the side eye when they pull up

i'm 6'1 and 100kg and even i feel cramped on those grab bikes. the issue isn't just the driver struggling with weight, it's that the grab app only lets you order motorbikes, so drivers on small 110cc honda waves show up and they're not built for bigger passengers. on sukhumvit soi 50 there's a motorbike taxi stand near the bts that uses honda forzas and nmaxes, those are way more stable. you could just walk over to those stands and negotiate a fare directly, they'll take you for 20-30 baht less than grab anyway and the bikes are actually comfortable for taller people

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
