Best sky views of the city?

Or if Mahanakhon is by far the best I guess I'll go there twice.

the river view from lebua at state tower is underrated tbh. daytime you can see the whole bend of the chao phraya and all the ferry traffic, night time the lit-up temples along the river look like gold ornaments. entry fee is around 900 baht but includes a drink voucher so it's not bad value if you want a proper cocktail

for a totally different vibe, the top of the asiatique sky ferris wheel at night. it's only 40 meters up but you're right on the riverfront with the lit-up barges and the glow of the new icoonsiam mall across the water. more about the atmosphere than the elevation

mahanakhon is still the best for that "wow" factor with the glass floor and the 360 view, but if you want to see two distinct sides of bangkok's skyline go lebua for the river and baiyoke for the sprawl. just don't do both on the same day, the contrast works better when you let it sink in

for daytime i'd actually say skip the paid spots and go to the top of the king power rangnam building's skywalk. it's free if you're just looking, no drink required, and you get a killer view of the victory monument roundabout plus the bts lines weaving through. it's not as high as mahanakhon but the angle is totally different, more about the city's grid than the river

at night hit the speakeasy bar at the muse hotel on langsuan. the rooftop is smaller and more intimate, you're eye level with the lit-up temples around lumpini park. the real trick is going on a weeknight when it's dead quiet and you can actually hear the city hum below. no glass floor gimmicks, just a solid old fashioned and the whole skyline spread out

Tichuca rooftop bar at T-One Building has a wild LED tree installation and good views of the skyline at night. For daytime, the ICONSIAM Skywalk along the river gives you a different angle with the Chao Phraya in the foreground.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
