Best area for cheap and furnished townhouse under 15k?
If you live downtown, you probably just laughed out loud, but I'm looking for a place that's a bit outside the city but still convenient enough....a quick bike taxi to a nearby MRT or BTS… Budget: 15k
If you live downtown, you probably just laughed out loud, but I'm looking for a place that's a bit outside the city but still convenient enough....a quick bike taxi to a nearby MRT or BTS would be ideal. I'm currently based in Chatuchack/ladprao area, and I know of two common options that my workers typically opt for:
1) Commute from Nonthaburi, where you can basically get a furnished house with a patio and garden space for like 8-12k.
2) Ramintra. Only about 15-20 minutes on the Green line from my location, around 10k for a furnished house.
These are a bit too far out for me. Any recommendations on where to look for a cheap house around ladprao/bhang khen, chatuchack, don Muang etc...
Any tips would be a huge help. I refuse to live in a shoebox lol. What areas am I missing? Neighborhood does not have to be fancy...
honestly for 15k you can do better than the outer burbs if you're willing to hunt a bit. try the sois off vibhavadi rangsit between mo chit and don muang, those older townhouse moo baans rarely get listed online. i've seen 2-story furnished units with a tiny yard for 12-14k near wat phra sri mahathat, 5 min bike to the bts at wong sawang or the srt at lak si. the traffic on vibhavadi is a nightmare but the train access makes up for it, and you're still close to chatuchak without being in a shoebox
try looking around bang khen near wat singh or the sois off phahon yothin 52 area, old townhouses can pop up for 10-13k and you're a quick bike ride to the bts at watcharaphon or SRT at lak si,
For 15k you're actually in decent shape for a furnished townhouse up around Lak Si or along the SRT Dark Red line. Check the sois off Phahon Yothin between Saphan Khwai and Mo Chit, there are older townhouse moo baans that landlords rarely advertise online. Walk the soi, look for "to let" signs, you'll find 2-story units with a tiny yard for 12-14k. The area around Kasetsart University has some too, and you're a 5-minute motorbike ride from the BTS at Phahon Yothin 24 or the SRT at Wat Samian Nari. It's not fancy but it's solid and way closer than Nonthaburi.
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.
for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.
honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
