Dealing with food restrictions in Bangkok?

Traveling to Bangkok for an extended stay (a few months) and am unfortunately saddled with both food allergies and chronic stomach illness meaning my diet is pretty fussy, and the typical Thai cuisine… Traveling to Bangkok for an extended stay (a few months) and am unfortunately saddled with both food allergies and chronic stomach illness meaning my diet is pretty fussy, and the typical Thai cuisine is not suuuuper compatible. Can eat rice though, so that's a perk. I'll be staying in a place with a kitchen and expect to cook for myself mostly which I don't expect to have any problems with but I also expect I will have to and want to eat out socially here and there. Wondering - are Thai establishments generally accommodating and understanding of food allergies?

I speak a bit of rudimentary Thai after some classes in preparation for this trip - enough to order food and explain the basics of my food restrictions in simple terms, but culturally I am not aware whether it's commonplace, considered rude, if I should call ahead, what the customary approach to this kind of thing is. Any advice welcome!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
