Hello,

I am close to khaosan road and I wanted to buy aome clothes (the suits with elefants and some shoes).

Inwas wondering if they are expensive compare to others places in Bangkok ?

The sales persons proposed me 250 without negotiations (for the suits), is it a good price ?

Thank you

The suits at 250 are the normal starting price, but you're really paying for the convenience of being on Khaosan. The same elephant print stuff shows up at Chatuchak Market on weekends for around 150 to 200, and you get way more variety there too. If you're only here a couple days though, just offer 180 and see if they bite, most of these stalls are owned by the same few families anyway so they have room to move.

For shoes, skip the ones on the main road completely. The canvas sneakers they sell there are basically paper with laces. There's a shop on Soi Rambuttri, past the Irish pub, that sells proper ones for around 350 and they won't fall apart after one night of walking. Or honestly, the cheapest option is a pair of Thai fisherman pants and sandals, that's what half the locals wear around there anyway.

Second this, soi stalls fold faster if you offer 150.

honestly 250 for that elephant suit isnt bad but u can do better. the trick is to walk away, they'll chase u down and drop it to 200 real quick. i got mine for 180 after pretending to leave, but that was on the side soi not the main strip. night market stalls near the river have similar stuff for less too, just less selection.

for shoes, dont even bother on khaosan, theyre all cheap vinyl that smell like chemicals. if u want the same vibe but better quality, check out the weekend market at chatuchak, theres a whole section of vintage and printed tees plus canvas shoes for like 300-400. but if u just need something for tonight, the 7-11 flip flops are unironically the best value on that road.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
