Hi guys, I just quit my 9-5 job and been unemployed for 3months. With every peny in my pocket, I decided to open a thrift store and planned for flying to Thailand for thrifting.

The thing is I literally know nothing in Thailand and I have couples questions:

- I wanted to thrift lace things such as long skirts, blouses, coats, scarfs etc, mostly dark and dark grunge.

Which places/markets and what's the province/city in Thailand do the wholesale clothing like that? I want to buy a lot of stuff because I live in another country

Is there any things I should be concerned about?

If you have any thing or experience for thrifting in Thai, please share. TIA

The area around Saphan Khwai has a few wholesale places that specialize in deadstock and overstock from Japanese and Korean importers. That's where you'll find the lace and dark grunge stuff in better condition than the Rong Muang bins, but you're paying 80-120 baht per piece instead of 30. Still cheap by any international standard.

For sheer volume of that specific aesthetic, walk Soi 7 off Petchaburi Road near the old Siam Commercial Bank building. There are three shophouses stacked floor to ceiling with 90s-era dark lace and velvet pieces, mostly unsorted and sold by the bag. The owners are Chinese Thai families who've been doing this for decades and they'll give you a better price if you show up early morning around 6am when they're unloading shipments.

One practical thing nobody mentioned yet is that Thailand measures fabric content differently than Western countries. If you're buying lace, check that it's actual cotton or polyester blends and not the synthetic nylon lace that falls apart after three washes. The cheap stuff looks great in photos but won't survive shipping.

honestly for grunge lace and dark stuff, Chatuchak weekend market is your best bet but it's more retail than wholesale. for bulk buying you wanna hit the Pratunam area or Sampeng Lane in Bangkok, they have tons of wholesale vintage-style clothes and you can negotiate if you buy a lot. just watch out for scams where they hike prices once they know you're foreign, bring a local friend if u can

ngl opening a thrift store on a tight budget in Bangkok is doable but you gotta be smart about it. skip Chatuchak for wholesale because the prices there are already marked up for tourists, instead head to Bo Bae Tower or the Rong Muang area near Hua Lamphong station. those spots have massive piles of unsorted clothes by the kilo and you'll find loads of dark lace skirts and coats for like 30-50 baht each if you dig through the bins. just be prepared for a chaotic sorting process and bring cash, most places there do not take cards.

one thing nobody mentioned is customs fees when you ship back home. check your country's import tax on used clothes before you buy a container load, it can eat your profit fast. also bring a dust mask and gloves because some of those warehouse piles are dusty as hell, especially the ones near Klong Toei market.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
