Does anyone know if Chatuchak weekend market will still be open as usual? and will the number of stalls opened likely be affected?

It will be open, and honestly the holiday crowds are part of the fun. The stalls are basically all there, but a handful of textile and antique dealers do shut up shop by mid-afternoon to get ready for the evening festivities. If you're after street food, the section near the ornamental fish zone stays packed till closing, and the grilled pork skewers there are worth the squeeze. One tip: the MRT's Kamphaeng Phet station exit is way less chaotic than Mo Chit on a holiday, so use that instead.

chatuchak stays open on public holidays yeah, even the king's birthday. stalls are usually all there too, maybe a few vendors take the day off but it's barely noticeable. just go early though, it gets packed with locals who also have the day off, and the heat is brutal by noon. if u want a break, the nearby or tor kor market is quieter and has better food anyway

yeah it'll be open, july 28 is a big one tho so expect it extra busy. the king's birthday means a lot of locals have the day off, so it's not just tourists. stalls are usually all out, but some of the smaller vintage sellers might close early to catch the evening celebrations. if u want a calmer vibe, hit the JJ mall side instead, it's air conditioned and most shops there stay open regular hours. also watch out for the free shuttle buses, they run on holidays too but get jammed.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
