Getting Ingrown Toenail Taken Out In Bangkok?
I've been looking around online and wanted to g… Has anyone gotten their ingrown toenail taken out out here in Bangkok? If yes, where did you do it and how much was it? Would you recommend that place?
I've been looking around online and wanted to gather more information. My friend got 2 taken out in a surgery done at Sukhumvit Hospital, which costed him around 14k baht, so I went there since he seemed to have an alright experience. The place seemed okay, everyone spoke pretty good English, service was relatively quick, easy to meet the doctor fast, and the doctor was nice and easy to speak with. However, the lady that took my blood pressure seemed annoyed or pushy and had me move around and take off my shoes to show her the ingrown toenail while I was still taking my blood pressure, which I thought you're supposed to keep still until the machine was finished taking the blood pressure. She said my blood pressure was a little high, but yeah I was moving around, I thought it was kind of unprofessional of her.
Then I spoke with the doctor and he said there's a chance I might have this procedure done many more times because it could grow back. I had an ingrown toenail taken out in America before and the second time they put some chemical on it to prevent it growing back in the same place, but the doctor said they don't do that or they won't. My friend that his done at this hospital, his has grown back after about two years and he might have to get the procedure done again. The doctor also said it would cost me around 8k-10k baht for the procedure.
I'm kind of skeptical of if I should have the procedure done at this hospital; thus, I'm still looking around and considering my options. If you guys have any experience you could share or a place that you recommend, I would highly appreciate it, thank you so much in advance!
i'd add a third option - samitivej hospital's minor surgery unit does this with phenol too, i had it done there about 2 years ago for 5,500 baht. the staff was professional, no weird blood pressure lady drama like u had lol
the key thing is just to say "i want the phenol procedure" when u book, not just removal. some places assume you want the basic cut because it's cheaper and they don't bother mentioning the alternative. dr nutt at podiatry center is probably the best specialist in the city for this but if you want a full hospital setup, samitivej is fine
also fyi the recovery is way easier with phenol, basically just keep it dry for 24 hours and wear sandals for a few days. your friend's experience of regrowth after 2 years is exactly why you don't want the basic removal
honestly i'd skip Sukhumvit Hospital for this, sounds like they're just doing the basic removal without phenol which is why it grows back. the chemical they use is phenol, it kills the nail matrix so it doesn't regrow - most podiatry clinics here can do it
try Dr. Nutt at Podiatry Center on Sukhumvit 31, he's a proper foot specialist. i paid around 6k for one toe with the phenol treatment and it's been 3 years with no regrowth. the place is small but professional, no nonsense
another option is Yanhee Hospital, they have a foot surgery department that does the phenol thing too. think it was around 5k-7k last i checked. just make sure you explicitly ask for "ingrown toenail removal with phenol" because some places will try to cheap out without it
the podiatry center on suk 31 is solid, i went there for a different foot thing and dr. nutt knew his stuff. if you want a hospital option though, bnh hospital does the phenol thing too, i paid around 7k for one toe and it's been fine for like 4 years now. just be really clear when you book that you want the phenol treatment or they might try the basic cut only

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
