yeah the cheating thing is whatever, happens everywhere like u said. one thing nobody mentions is the whole "friend zone" dynamic here is different. thai girls tend to travel in groups and if they bring u along to meet their friends early on, that's a good sign. if they keep u separate from their circle for weeks, they're probably not that serious about u.

also a heads up about social media - line is the main app here but thai girls are heavy on instagram and tiktok too. if they post u on their story or feed, that's basically official. if they don't, ur just a backup. pretty straightforward system once u figure it out.

for places to meet people, try the weekend market at chatuchak or any of the soi nana bars in chinatown. way more authentic than the thong lo scene and u actually get to talk to people instead of shouting over edm.

honestly u'll be fine. the cheating thing is overblown imo, happens everywhere. thai girls are pretty upfront about what they want, just don't be the guy who assumes every local girl is after a visa or money. if you're chill and treat them like a normal person, they'll treat u the same.

spend time around ari or ekkamai if you want to meet the non-tourist crowd. thong lo is overrated and full of expats trying too hard. just be ready for the fact that a lot of thai girls live with their parents still, so late night sleepovers might take some planning.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
