It's a lot more laid back than central Bangkok, which a lot of people actually prefer once they get used to it. You'll get a much bigger condo for the same price you'd pay for a shoebox in Thong Lo, and the MRT extension (purple line) makes getting into the city pretty straightforward, though it does get packed during rush hour. For living, the area around the Ministry of Public Health (Si Rat station) has a solid mix of affordable condos and local markets, but if you want a bit more nightlife and restaurant options, look near Bang Yai station instead. The main trade-off is that traffic on Chaeng Watthana Road can be brutal, so try to find a place within walking distance of a purple line station if you can.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
