Central Chidlom's Tops is decent but the import stock is inconsistent. I've had better luck at the Villa Market at Sukhumvit soi 33 and the EmQuartier branch, both carry Hidden Valley and Newman's in the imported section near the baking stuff. Expect to pay around 250 to 300 baht a bottle. If they're out, Lazada sellers doing 3 packs of Hidden Valley often work out cheaper than single bottles, just watch the expiry dates.

Big C on Rama IV actually has a decent American import shelf now, I've seen Hidden Valley and Kraft there for under 200 baht, cheaper than Villa or Foodland. The catch is stock is random, so call ahead if you're making a special trip. Another option people sleep on is the gourmet section at Isetan in Central World, they rotate small batches of Newman's Own and the staff will hold a bottle for you if you ask nicely.

Tops at Central Chidlom has a small American section near the frozen stuff and I've seen Kraft there a few times, though it comes and goes. Honestly tho the sweet thing you're tasting is because most Thai mayo is sweeter, so even the imported bottles taste off if you mix em with local mayo. If you want the closest to real ranch, grab a bottle of Heinz or Best Foods mayo from the same import aisle and cut it with that instead, makes a big difference.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
