Got on Sukhumvit line at N3, got off on Silom line at S3?

How does this happen? Seems rather odd that the train switched lines at Siam... I suppose I should've listened but why on earth would this happen? I get on and assume it will go to the place advertise… How does this happen? Seems rather odd that the train switched lines at Siam... Siam is the only place on the whole network where the two lines physically touch, so it's the one spot where a through-run is even possible. What likely happened is you boarded at N3 without checking the front car's destination, and that particular train was one of the interlined ones heading to Bang Wa or further. Practical tip for next time: if you're at N3 and the train is even slightly emptier than usual, it's probably a Silom-bound through train, because most people at N3 are waiting for the Kheha direction and won't board it. Or just hop off at Siam and take the 30-second walk to the other platform, it's honestly not a big deal.

fwiw this isnt a glitch, the BTS actually interlines the two lines at Siam during peak hours so trains from Kheha can roll straight through to Mo Chit without you changing. the giveaway is the LED strip above the doors, itll flash the final station not the line name. i always just glance at that before sitting down, saves the panic at Siam.

yeah the BTS is two separate lines that just share Siam. Sukhumvit line runs N and E, Silom line runs W and S. at Siam you're supposed to switch trains, but sometimes they through-run during rush hour or when there's track work, so the train you boarded on the Sukhumvit side can continue onto the Silom side. it's confusing as hell for visitors but locals just check the sign above the platform. next time look at the destination board on the train itself, not just the line color.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
