Any one have luck ordering contact lenses in Bkk?

The problem with ordering contacts in Bangkok is that most places don't carry a wide range of powers, so you'll often end up waiting for a special order. That's why I prefer to buy from stores that cater to foreigners, like the optometrist at the Bumrungrad Hospital, they have a good selection of daily lenses and can usually get what you need within a few days, it's a bit more expensive than some other places but the service is good and they're open until 8 pm on weekdays. You'll need to get a new prescription if it's been more than a year since your last eye exam, which they can do on the spot for about 1,500 baht.

fwiw i've had good luck with Boots on Silom Road, they have a wide selection of contact lenses and the staff is pretty knowledgeable, they can also help you with the prescription if you're not sure, prices are prob similar to other places but at least they have stock, also they have a online store but i've never tried ordering from it so not sure about the shipping times

i went to a small optometrist on charoen krung road near the river, they had a pretty good selection of daily lenses from brands like acuvue and biofinity, the owner spoke good english and was willing to order in lenses for me if they didn't have them in stock, prices were similar to other places but the service was more personal, they also do eye exams if you need to get a new prescription, it's worth a try if you're in the area

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
