Is there anywhere cool up in Nonthaburi near Impact Arena to stay/eat/look at?

Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat's terrace is the real gem, but the boat noodle soi shuts by 4pm so go for lunch not dinner.

if you're up for a bit of a walk, the area around Impact actually has some hidden canal-side spots, especially near the old Khlong Bang Bua. grab a motorbike taxi and head to Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat, the temple's got this quiet riverside terrace where locals chill in the evening, great for watching the sunset without any crowd. for eats, the soi behind the Impact food street has a family-run boat noodle place, 40 baht a bowl, they've been there for years and it's way better than the touristy joints. and if you need a place to crash, check out the homestay near Bang Yai BTS, it's a bit further but you get a real neighborhood feel and easy access into Bangkok after your event.

honestly the best move near Impact is staying somewhere along the Chaengwattana road side, there's a bunch of new condo-style hotels like the ibis and Novotel that are walkable to the venue if you're there for a show. for food, don't sleep on the night market at Muang Thong Thani soi 14, it's got proper Isaan grilled stuff and som tam that beats any mall joint. if you want a weird but cool detour, the old Nonthaburi pier area has a floating market on weekends that's way less touristy than the ones downtown, and you can catch a river boat back into Bangkok for like 15 baht. for looking at stuff, the walking street near the city hall on Saturday evenings has live music and local crafts, it's a chill vibe but it gets packed after 7pm.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
