How to return unused medicine ?

I have some unused / expired medicine in my drawer that I would like to dispose of. Trash or toilets are not a good practice as it could pollute the environment. Where should I bring it ? If it's just regular pills and not antibiotics or narcotics, the easiest option is to take them to a participating Boots or Watsons branch. They run a "medication take back" program at select stores, mostly the bigger ones in central malls, and they'll log it properly for disposal. For anything sharper like insulin needles, you're better off looking for the red infectious waste bins outside some government health centers, but those are usually for clinics, not the public. Also, if your meds are still unexpired and sealed, some animal shelters around town, like the Soi Dog Foundation drop-off points, will happily take them for their vet budget.

honestly most people just toss it in the bin here, the city doesn't have a big official program like some countries. but if u want to do it properly, some private hospitals like bnh or samitivej have drop boxes near their pharmacy for expired meds, just call ahead. the big government hospitals like siriraj also take them sometimes but it's hit or miss depending on the day. if it's just pills and no needles, u can also mix them with coffee grounds or dirt in a sealed bag and throw in regular trash, that's what the local health office basically suggests anyway. the bkk metropolitan administration has a list on their website under "ขยะติดเชื้อ" but it's mostly for sharps, not your leftover paracetamol.

I'd check with your nearest district office, the khet office, they sometimes run collection events for household hazardous stuff. Otherwise, a lot of the bigger pharmacies in malls, like the ones at Central or Siam Paragon, have bins for returns, it just depends on the branch. Call the one near you and ask, they'll tell you if they take it or point you somewhere close.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
