If you're into food markets, the Or Tor Kor market near Chatuchak is worth the BTS ride. It's less chaotic than the tourist night markets and the quality of the fruit, grilled meats, and curries is noticeably better. I'd suggest going on a weekday morning before it gets hot, grab a seat at one of the communal tables and try the khao soi or the mango with sticky rice. The Carlton is convenient for the BTS Nana station, but I'd skip the immediate area around there for meals and head a couple stops towards Thong Lo or Ekkamai for better local restaurants.

hey man, if you're around sukhumvit, check out the food stalls near soi 38, it's a quick walk from the carlton and way better than the overpriced tourist spots. i usually grab a bowl of boat noodles from the old lady there, it's like 60 baht and hits the spot. also, the rooftop bar at the marriott on sukhumvit has a solid happy hour from 5-7, good spot to meet people without the club scene nonsense.

honestly the carlton's in a decent spot but soi 11 can be a bit of a circus at night. if you want a more laidback meal head over to sukhumvit 26, there's a small spot called baanying that does solid thai food without the markup. the fried fish with green mango salad is my go-to there, around 250 baht and way better than the stuff on the main road

also if you're into a proper local beer scene, check out hajime robot on soi 39. it's a tiny japanese izakaya that does cheap beers and grilled skewers, always a mix of expats and locals. easy to strike up a conversation there without it feeling forced

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
