Can anyone recommend a good driving school/teacher to learn manual (English speaking) reasonably near by to chatuchak?

Found a few online including Ratchadadrive School but it has mixed reviews so was wondering if anyone has any recommendations :) Found a few online including Ratchadadrive School but it has mixed reviews so was wondering if anyone has any recommendations :)

tbh i'd skip the big schools and just ask around at the driving test center on vibhavadi, the instructors there moonlight on weekends and most of em speak enough english. mine was 400 an hour, came to chatuchak, taught on a old civic with a real heavy clutch which honestly made everything else feel easy after

ratchadadrive is fine for the basics but the manual cars are old and the clutch bites super high, which teaches u bad habits. if u can stretch to it, bangchak driving school on phahon yothin soi 32 has a proper english instructor and their manual yaris is way easier to learn on, think it was around 600 an hour or a package deal. only catch is u gotta book like a week ahead cos the english slots fill fast

honestly manual lessons here are a bit of a crapshoot since most schools teach auto by default. i ended up going with a private instructor off a facebook group called "driving instructor bangkok" instead of a school, cost about 500 baht an hour and he came to me near saphan khwai. the trick is finding someone who actually lets u practice clutch control on real roads, not just the school lot off vibhavadi. ask upfront if the car is manual and if lessons are door to door, thats the main thing

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
