I have to claim my luggage and check back into Bangkok Airways. How much time should I put between the two flight? 3 hours, ok?

yeah 3 is good, especially since u gotta factor in the walk from the international arrival to the bkk airways counter. it's not a quick hop, u go through immigration, grab bags, then it's a bit of a hike to the check-in desks. if ur feeling hungry after, the magic food court near gate d is where the staff eat, cheap and decent. just double check ur boarding pass says "bangkok airways" and not "bangkok air," different airlines, different terminal spots, easy mix-up

3 is safe but honestly the real variable is whether ur arriving flight is on time. 4:20pm lands right in the thick of the european arrivals push so even with fast track u might sit in line 30 mins. the bkk airways counter on level 2 is chill that time of day but if ur coming from a different terminal than the main one, factor in the shuttle ride. i'd say keep 3 but download the bkk airways app to check gate changes, samui can swap gates last minute. if u end up with extra time, the airside lounge near gate c has decent showers for like 500 baht, worth it after a long flight

3 hrs is fine but honestly u could do 2.5 if ur first flight's on time. bkk's immigration can get slow in the late afternoon though, like 4pm is when the big european flights land, so don't push it below 3 if u can help it. also samui flights leave from the same pier A gates, so no terminal change, just a long walk. grab a mango sticky rice at the magic food court near gate d if u have time, way better than the overpriced cafes past security.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
