Dog friendly places? In and outside of BKK?

They are used to being able to roam around in a field back home with lots of free space to play. Does anyone have any recommendations for dog friendly parks, cafes, hikes, or areas we can travel to outside of Bangkok for the weekend where we can take them for long walks in nature or they can swim in the sea or a lake? TIA!

Since your labs are used to open space, one option that often gets overlooked is the dog park at Wachirabenchathat Park, also known as Rot Fai Park, near Chatuchak. It has a fenced off-leash area that's actually grassy and shaded, and the morning crowd is friendly, though with three big dogs you'll want to arrive early before it gets crowded and hot.

For a weekend escape with swimming, skip the crowded Pattaya beaches and head to the Mae Klong River area in Samut Songkhram instead. There are homestays along the riverbanks that accept dogs, and the water is calm and shallow near the edges, perfect for labs to wade in without worrying about waves or currents. It's about an hour and a half from the city, and the local seafood restaurants there are dog friendly on their outdoor terraces.

If you want real hiking, the trails at Khao Yai are off-limits to dogs, but the Phu Kradueng area is even stricter. A better bet is the Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi, where the lower waterfalls have wide, flat pools; dogs aren't allowed on the main trail, but the parking area and the river just outside the park entrance have spots where locals let their dogs swim freely. Pair that with a stay at a riverside resort nearby, and your labs will get both a swim and a proper countryside run.

I'd add Benjakitti Park to your list for an in-city option. The new section near the lake has wide, shaded paths and it's a popular spot for dog owners in the mornings, though it's strictly on-leash. For a real escape, consider driving down to Hua Hin instead of the usual Pattaya route; the beaches north of town near Khao Takiab are quieter and most sea-facing resorts there are used to foreign dogs.

If you want them truly off-leash with water, look into dog boarding farms around Kanchanaburi, places like Dog Life Resort or similar are about two hours away and have massive fenced fields plus swimming ponds. They're not just kennels, many let you come for day visits with your own dogs, and the owners are usually happy to let labs run until they're exhausted. It's a good middle ground between a cafe and a full hike.

Three labs is a handful, but Bangkok has more options than people think. For a proper off-leash run, check out Suan Luang Rama IX park on the east side, it's huge with a dedicated dog zone in the mornings before it gets too hot. For swimming, you're better off heading to Pattaya or Bang Saen, both about 1.5 to 2 hours away; many beachfront resorts near Jomtien allow dogs if you ask, and the water is calm enough for them to paddle around.

If you want nature without the sea, Khao Yai National Park is your best bet for a weekend trip, but dogs aren't allowed on the main trails. Instead, stay at a pet friendly resort on the park's edge, there are several with big lawns and even private ponds where your labs can splash. Just drive into the park's lower areas for a leashed walk on the quieter roads, early morning is lovely and cool.

For a quick day trip, the Bang Kachao peninsula is a green oasis across the Chao Phraya, you can rent bikes and there are open paths along the canals. It's not fully fenced, so keep them leashed, but the shade and dirt trails beat any sidewalk stroll in the city.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
