I have been using Anywheel shared bicycle for a few days in a closed area like stadium. I was wondering if I bike with it on the road around 6-9 AM, will it be allowed and safe?

Because I haven't seen any Thai riding a bike around mbk / chula area in the morning

i bike around that area pretty often and honestly the main thing is just picking the right route. phayathai and rama 1 are a no-go during rush hour but the soi network between mbk and chula is totally fine, just go slow at intersections

the anywheels are fine for short trips but they're heavy and slow which makes you a bit more vulnerable in traffic. if you're gonna do it regularly i'd consider getting a lighter bike, even a cheap secondhand one from the weekend market at chatuchak

also worth noting that thai cyclists are usually on proper road bikes or mountain bikes, not the shared ones. i see plenty of them on henri dunant road and around the chula campus but they're moving fast and wearing full kit

honestly I see plenty of Thais biking around Chula area, just not on the main roads like Phayathai or Rama 1. They stick to the sois and smaller lanes, especially around Soi Chula 12 and the backstreets behind Sam Yan

the main issue isn't legality, it's the buses and taxis that don't give a shit about cyclists. If you stick to the soi network between MBK and Siam you'll be fine, but crossing Phayathai or Rama 1 on a bike at 8am is pretty dicey. I've seen a few farangs do it on those green Anywheels but they look stressed af

fwiw the safest morning route from that area is cutting through Chulalongkorn Uni campus itself, they have bike lanes and security guards who actually slow down cars. Just gotta watch for students on motorbikes who think they're MotoGP racers

Yeah it's legal, no one's gonna stop you. The bigger problem is that the infrastructure just isn't built for bikes on those main roads, so you're constantly dodging taxis and buses that don't expect you there. If you stick to the quieter sois around Chula or cut through the campus it's way more chill, people do it all the time.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
