I recently came across a concerning Taxi scam that's targeting travelers, and I thought I'd share it here if others have experienced the same and also to help everyone stay safe.
From what I could understand from the video, the scam involves a taxi service somewhere in Bangkok wanting to charge extra because it's late and wanted to leave the tourists stranded. It gets heated up and the tourists ended up paying what the taxi driver wanted.

After watching the video I did a quick search about scams in Thailand and I came across countless videos like that.

ngl the meter refusal thing is real but it's not every driver, most are fine during the day. the real trick is to just have google maps open with your route, if they try to take you the long way you can just say "go this way" and point. also if you're near a bts or mrt stop after midnight just take that instead, it runs until midnight and the skytrain is way cheaper than any taxi scam
yeah that video's been going around, it's a classic meter refusal scam but usually happens late night when you're stuck. honestly the easiest way to avoid this is to just use Grab or Bolt from the airport or after 10pm, the price is fixed and you see it upfront. if you do flag a taxi, always ask "meter?" before you get in and if they say no or point to a flat price just walk away, there's always another one. for the airport specifically the official taxi stand at Suvarnabhumi is fine if you take the number ticket and use the meter, just ignore the guys who approach you before you get to the booth
honestly just use the grab app and save yourself the headache. theres no reason to haggle with random taxis in bangkok when the app tells you the price upfront

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
