I play Badminton with a lot of thai people, but they always cancel at the last minute. Would love to meet some new Badminton people! I am not good at it, but not bad at it either.

if you're near ekkamai, the badminton courts at the racquet club off soi 10 are decent and not as crowded as lumphini. they do a walk-in rate of 200 baht an hour and you can usually find a game if you hang around the front desk for 10 mins. also check the fb group "bangkok badminton meetup" - it's mostly expats and people post same-day if they're short a player, less cancel drama that way

there's a solid group that plays at the badminton court inside lumphini park on weekend mornings, usually around 8am. it's a mixed crowd of expats and locals and they're pretty chill about skill level. also the sports complex at thammasat university has open play sessions for like 100 baht per person, bring ur own racket and shuttlecocks though since the ones they lend out are beat

honestly try the badminton hall at the mall bangkapi, its got like 10 courts and people just show up randomly. i've gone alone a bunch and always found someone to rally with, just dont go on fridays its packed with regulars

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
