Looking for information on getting an MRI or a general health checkup?

Question

Hi, I was looking to have a MRI scan on main upper body as a good health check. Does anyone know if there are any private cliinics that iffer this and what it might cost? thanks

If you're set on a scan rather than a basic panel, check the smaller specialist imaging centers instead of the big hospital names. Places like Absolute MRI on Sukhumvit Soi 49 or The Medical City Imaging near Phrom Phong focus purely on scans, so they often beat the hospitals on price and you can book a slot within a day or two. Expect to pay around 18k to 25k baht for a full torso run there, but confirm it covers the radiologist's report, that's the part that quietly adds 3k to 5k if you're not careful.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the prep side, they'll want you fasting for at least four hours if they're doing contrast on the abdomen, and you'll need to fill out a metal-safety questionnaire beforehand. Some places also ask for a referral letter from a local GP even if you're paying out of pocket, so call ahead and ask if they'll waive that, most will if you're clearly symptom-free. Also, if you're on any blood thinners or have kidney issues, mention it when booking, they may switch you to a non-contrast protocol, which changes the price quote.

bumrungrad is the obvious one but tbh for a full upper body mri you're looking at way more than a standard checkup. i'd skip the big hospital names and check samitivej's srinakarin branch or even bangkok hospital's general package, they sometimes bundle mri with bloodwork cheaper. last i heard a single region mri runs around 15-20k baht, but full torso scans can jump to 40k+ so get a written quote first. also make sure they include the radiologist read in the price, some places sting you extra for that.

honestly unless youve got symptoms or a family history, a full upper body mri as a "health check" is overkill. most doctors here will tell u the same. if u just want peace of mind, start with a basic health package at somewhere like med park or praram 9 hospital, those run like 3-6k baht and include bloodwork plus ekg. if something flags, then do the mri targeted at that area, not the whole torso. that way you're not burning 40k+ on something u dont need yet. and if u do go for it, check the scan time, some machines are older and take 45 mins, newer ones at samitivej or bnh are faster and clearer.

Bangkok has many private clinics offering MRIs. Pricing varies wildly depending on the clinic and the specific scan. I'd recommend checking websites like those of Bumrungrad International Hospital or Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital for price estimates and to schedule an appointment. Getting a quote beforehand is always a good idea.
