PUMCH Emergency Room?

Question

So I'm heading to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, or PUMCH as the locals call it, next week for a pre-arranged consultation. Heard it's top-notch, but also incredibly busy. My biggest worry? Navigating the sheer scale of the place, getting lost in the labyrinthine corridors seems inevitable. Anyone been through the ER there? Any tips on finding my way around efficiently, or should I just accept my fate and wander until I stumble upon my appointment?

skip the main entrance crush by using the Dongdan metro exit then walking up Shuaifuyuan, way less stressful than fighting the taxi drop-off on Wangfujing side. for your actual appointment grab your 挂号 slip from the self-service machine the night before if u can, morning queues there are brutal & the machines fill up by 7am. also bring your passport & a printed copy of your booking, the registration windows won't accept just a phone screenshot half the time.

been to the ER there once with my dad, totally different beast from the consultation wing so don't stress about that part. real tip nobody mentions, the buildings are numbered but the numbers make no sense, bldg 1 is nowhere near bldg 2, so ignore the maps on the wall & just ask the 导医 volunteers in the red vests, they'll walk u partway. also eat before u go, the cafeteria there is grim & overpriced, walk 5 min to the little noodle spot on Dongdan Beidajie instead

The main outpatient building is the big tower on Shuaifuyuan, and honestly the signage is better than most hospitals here. Download the PUMCH app before you go, it shows your building and floor, and staff at the ground floor info desk will point you right if you show them your appointment slip. The ER is a separate entrance on the east side, so don't wander in there by mistake, it's chaos and not where you want to be for a consultation.
