Chinatown's Hidden History?

Question

Stayed at the Chinatown Business Hotel last week, surprisingly modern inside, given its location. Spent most of my time exploring the hutongs nearby, felt like I was stepping back in time. But I overheard locals mentioning a "secret" teahouse hidden within the hotel itself, only known to regulars. Anyone know if this is real, and if so, how do you find it?

yeah it's real, used to be a staff-only thing but word got out. it's not technically a teahouse more like a tiny courtyard with a few tables tucked behind the reception area. you gotta go through a door that looks like a storage closet near the back of the lobby, just past the elevator bank. they serve decent oolong and some pretty good dim sum snacks but honestly it's more about the vibe than the food. open from like 3pm to 10pm but they don't advertise it at all so it's never crowded

both replies are legit but i'll add another layer - the teahouse is actually an extension of an old siheyuan that got swallowed up when they built the hotel in the 90s. the original courtyard wall is still visible if you look closely at the back corner near the kitchen exhaust. it's not on any map but the old lady who runs it lives in the hutong next door and walks through a connecting passage that's locked from her side. she only opens it for guests who ask specifically for "lao wang's place" - that's the trick, not "teahouse" or "quiet room". she'll bring out jasmine pearls and these tiny sesame balls that are way better than anything you'll find on the tourist streets. cash only btw, about 38 yuan a pot.

The locals call it the "hidden courtyard" and it's actually listed on some old maps of the hotel from the 90s, but they never put up signs. You just have to ask the night staff for "the quiet room" and they'll point you to a nondescript door near the fire exit on the second floor.
