Apartment next to a big street but windows facing an inner garden?

Question

Hi! I've got an offer for the apartment in Berlin right on Alt-Friedrichsfelde, somewhere around Alt-Friedrichsfelde 120. It is a top floor, the living room facing the street and kitchen and bedroom facing the inner garden. I liked the apartment but I'm a bit hesitant about the noise level. I think I can handle some moderate noise of the traffic during the day but it's really important to me that a bedroom is quiet. Has anyone some experience with apartments like this? If a bedroom faces an inner garden, will it remain quiet? And if you have any feedback about this area, I would also appreciate it. Thanks a lot:)

something nobody's mentioned yet - check the window type in the bedroom. if it's a modern tilt-and-turn with double glazing, you'll be fine. if it's those old wooden kastenfenster (double windows), they actually work great for sound but can be a pain to open. i lived on a similar setup near landsberger allee and the bedroom was dead quiet even with traffic right out front. alt-friedrichsfelde itself is alright, you've got the s-bahn to alexanderplatz in like 15 mins and the tierpark is nice for a weekend walk. just know the area's pretty sleepy, not many bars or cafes within walking distance

you'll be fine noise-wise, the inner garden acts like a sound buffer especially on the top floor. just make sure the windows are properly sealed, old berlin windows can be drafty and let more street noise through than you'd expect. alt-friedrichsfelde itself is fine, pretty quiet at night, but the tram line on frankfurter allee nearby can be loud if you're catching it late. the area's a bit of a commute to central spots but there's a rewe and a decent bakery a few minutes walk

One thing to check is whether the inner garden is actually private to the building or shared with neighbors. If it's shared, you might get noise from people having barbecues or parties in summer, though top floor helps. Alt-Friedrichsfelde itself is okay but there's not much in walking distance besides the Tierpark and a few shops, you'll probably end up taking the S-Bahn into Friedrichshain or Lichtenberg for anything interesting. The bedroom should be quiet enough if the windows are decent, just make sure they're not those single-pane old ones that rattle when a truck goes by.

the inner garden should be fine for noise, especially top floor since you're further from ground-level rumble. just check if the garden has a playground or something, kids can be loud in summer evenings. alt-friedrichsfelde is a bit of a transit corridor, you'll hear sirens sometimes but the bedroom side won't catch much of it. the area is okay, pretty residential, closest u-bahn is probably friedrichsfelde ost which is about a 10 minute walk

honestly the inner garden thing is pretty reliable for noise reduction, especially top floor. One thing nobody mentioned yet - check if the garden has those metal garbage bin cages or a recycling point underneath, they can be loud at 7am when the trucks come. Alt-Friedrichsfelde itself is fine, you got the S-Bahn at Friedrichsfelde Ost and the tram 27 runs along there too. There's a decent späti on the corner near the big Rewe and the park by the Tierpark is nice for walks, though the area's more functional than charming imo
