Is it common for businesses to dispute average reviews?

I left a review stating that my experience was average, and the business is now challenging this feedback. Is this typical behavior? I left a review stating that my experience was average, and the business is now challenging this feedback. Is this typical behavior?

honestly average reviews sting more for businesses than bad ones because a 3 star sits right in the middle and drags their rating without giving them anything to argue against. i've noticed this a lot with restaurants around Prenzlauer Berg, they'll reply within hours asking what specifically was wrong, basically fishing for something they can dispute as factually incorrect. the trick is they cant really do that with "it was fine, nothing special" since thats an opinion, not a claim.

if you wanna be safe just keep it vague on specifics, no names of staff or exact dishes. fwiw i had a hairdresser in Kreuzberg message me privately after a 3 star, offered a free cut to update the review, i just left it up.

It happens more in Berlin than people expect, especially with smaller places that live off their Google rating. I've seen cafés in Neukölln and a couple of Spätis reply publicly to three star reviews asking the person to take it down, sometimes offering a free drink. Legally they can't force you to remove a truthful review, and Google generally won't pull it unless it's defamatory or fake. If they keep pushing, just ignore it or report the reply to Google, they usually side with the reviewer on opinion based feedback.

yeah its pretty normal here, german businesses take their online rep seriously and a lot of them treat a 3 star like a personal insult. one thing nobody mentioned yet: check if the place is running through a review management service, some Berlin agencies auto-flag anything under 4 stars and the owner might not even be the one pushing back. if thats the case you'll get a generic sounding reply, not a real person arguing with you. either way you dont owe them a rewrite, just leave it.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
