What are the key factors contributing to these challenges, and are there any proposed solutions or improvements being considered?

the real bottleneck nobody mentions is the BSR fleet itself. a lot of the collection trucks are pushing 15+ years and they run diesel routes that get rerouted constantly because of Baustellen, so even a normal week in Mitte means missed pickups. add the fact that a bunch of the Müllheizkraftwerk capacity goes to generating district heating and you get this weird situation where burning trash is basically part of the energy grid, which kills any incentive to actually reduce volume. i'd rather see them fund a proper organic waste separate collection citywide first, since Bioabfall is still like a third of what ends up in the Restmüll bin.

Berlin's waste problem is less about people being lazy and more about the sheer density of construction and turnover. Every time a Altbau gets gutted for renovation, you get mountains of Sperrmüll dumped on the sidewalk because the pickup slots at BSR are booked out weeks in advance. I've seen entire Küchen and bathroom tiles piled up on Kastanienallee for days. The real fix would be more frequent bulky waste collection and stricter enforcement on illegal dumping, but the Bezirke keep passing the buck to BSR and nothing moves.

A lot of it comes down to how the city splits responsibility. The Bezirke handle public street cleaning, BSR handles the actual collection, and private landlords deal with building waste, so nobody owns the whole picture. When a Hof is overflowing, the Hausverwaltung blames the tenants, the tenants blame BSR, and the Ordnungsamt rarely shows up unless someone formally complains. One thing that could actually help is more consistent enforcement of the Berliner Straßenreinigungsgesetz plus clearer rules on who pays when a building's waste area turns into a dump.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
