Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

Question

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next semester, a friend who graduated a few years ago hinted at some seriously *intense* student societies there, beyond the usual debating and anime clubs. He wouldn't spill the beans, just kept dropping cryptic comments about late-night labs and "unofficial curriculum." So, my question is: are there any truly obscure, almost legendary student groups at BUCT that only the initiated know about? I'm hoping for something less "study group" and more "underground chemical alchemy club"... Maybe I'll find out firsthand.

the real "unofficial curriculum" at buct is prob the 实验楼 basement crowd that basically runs their own side projects after hours, but nobody calls it a club, its just who u know. if ur friend was vague its cause the interesting stuff is tied to specific 课题组 & lab mates, not some named society. my advice is skip hunting for legends & just go to the 社团招新 fair in september, thats where u actually meet the ppl who know things

ur friend is prob talking about the 化协, the chemistry association, which has a rep for being way more hardcore than the name suggests. they run unofficial weekend experiments out at 昌平 or 房山 sometimes, and the older members basically gatekeep who gets invited. its not alchemy but the initiation vibe is real. also check out the 科幻协会 if u want weird late-night energy, they meet in a room off 主教楼 and do things like synth chem discussions at 2am

tbh the "secret society" thing at beijing unis is mostly just 老乡会 (hometown associations) and a few lab groups that basically live in the building, not some alchemy club. at buct specifically the chemistry kids pull all-nighters in the 化工楼 near 北三环东路, and yeah there are informal crews that form around a professor's project, but that's it. if u want the real underground vibe go find the 棋牌 rooms behind the dorm canteens, thats where the actual legends happen

honestly the stuff your friend is hinting at is prob just the 课题组 culture, like if you join a prof's research group early you basically disappear into 实验楼 for a year and come out speaking a different language. that feels "secret" to outsiders but its not a club. the actual weird niche groups at buct are more like the 考研 crews who camp in 图书馆 and the 自行车协会 doing night rides out past 昌平. nothing alchemy-ish, sorry to burst it
