**🪡 Barong Tagalog** The barong tagalog is the national formal shirt for men, made from delicate fabrics like piña (pineapple fiber) or jusi (banana silk). For authentic pieces, visit Tesoro's in Intramuros or the Kamuning Market area. Prices range from ₱1,500 for machine-made to over ₱10,000 for hand-embroidered versions. This garment traces its roots to the 19th century, when Spanish colonial officials required Filipinos to wear transparent shirts as a status marker. **🪵 Wood Carvings from Paete** Paete, a town in Laguna province, is renowned for its hand-carved wooden religious statues and decorative items. You can find these at the Sunday tiangge (flea market) in Cubao or directly from Paete's workshops. Small figurines start at ₱200, while larger pieces can cost ₱5,000 or more. The tradition dates back to the Spanish colonial era, when local artisans carved santos (saints) for churches. **🧺 Buntal Hats and Bags** Buntal is a fine, cream-colored fiber woven from the stalks of the buri palm, used to make lightweight hats and handbags. Head to Quiapo Market or the stalls along Taft Avenue near the Cultural Center of the Philippines for the best selection. A simple hat costs around ₱300 to ₱800, while bags range from ₱500 to ₱2,000. This craft originated in the town of Baliwag, Bulacan, and was popularized in the early 1900s as a substitute for imported straw. **🎭 Filipino Folk Dolls** Hand-painted wooden dolls dressed in traditional costumes representing different regions of the Philippines are a charming souvenir. Look for them at the National Museum gift shop or at Kultura branches in SM malls. Prices range from ₱300 to ₱1,500 per doll. These dolls reflect the country's diverse cultural heritage, with each outfit depicting indigenous or folk attire like the Ifugao bahag or the Maranao malong. **🍬 Pasalubong Sweets** Pasalubong is the Filipino tradition of bringing home gifts, and sweets are a staple. Buy polvoron (crumbly milk candy), pastillas de leche (milk candies), and dried mangoes at the Pasalubong Center in Cubao or at any branch of Goldilocks or Red Ribbon. Prices range from ₱50 for a small pack to ₱500 for a gift box. These treats originated from Spanish-influenced confectionery and are a sweet reminder of Manila's culinary history. **🎨 Jeepney Miniatures** Miniature jeepneys made from recycled materials or hand-painted metal are iconic Manila souvenirs. Find them at the Jeepney Art Store in Quiapo or at the Sunday market in Legazpi Village, Makati. Prices start at ₱150 for a small toy and go up to ₱2,000 for detailed collectibles. The jeepney itself is a post-WWII invention, repurposed from US military jeeps, and has become a symbol of Filipino resilience and creativity. **📿 Bamboo Rosaries and Religious Items** Manila is a deeply Catholic city, and handcrafted bamboo rosaries or wooden crosses make meaningful keepsakes. Visit the San Agustin Church gift shop in Intramuros or the stalls outside Quiapo Church. A simple bamboo rosary costs around ₱100 to ₱300. These items connect to the 400-year-old tradition of Filipino Catholicism, with bamboo symbolizing strength and flexibility in faith. **🧵 Handwoven Textiles** Inabel and t'nalak are traditional handwoven fabrics from the Ilocos and Mindanao regions, respectively. You can buy them at the Narda's Handwoven shop in Makati or at the Kultura store in SM Mall of Asia. Prices range from ₱500 for a scarf to ₱5,000 for a blanket. These textiles are made using centuries-old backstrap loom techniques, and each pattern carries cultural significance tied to the weaver's community.
