ICE Werk Berlin Rummelsburg: Lost & Found?

Question

So, I'm heading to the ICE Werk in Rummelsburg next week, heard it's a seriously cool abandoned industrial site, a real photographer's dream. I've been scouring old Berlin forums, but info's patchy. My question is: anyone know about any specific areas inside that are particularly photogenic or maybe... less likely to have aggressive security guards? I'm aiming for that gritty, post-apocalyptic vibe, you know? Rumours of hidden graffiti art are also very tempting. Hopefully, I won't get lost within the labyrinthine structures... or arrested. Let's hope I have enough batteries for my camera!

ngl the real gem is the old pump house tucked behind the main sheds, most people walk right past it. theres this basement level where the water used to come in, all these weird metal grates and valves rusted solid, the light comes through these tiny windows at ground level so you get these long shadows. just bring a proper flashlight, its pitch black down there and the floor is uneven as hell. security prob wont bother with that spot, its too far from the road for them to notice anyone going in

fwiw the old water tower near the southeastern corner is pretty overlooked, most people gravitate to the sheds or the train graveyard but that tower gives u a solid vantage point for wide shots of the whole complex. just be careful on the spiral stairs, some treads are missing or loose. security patrols the perimeter road every couple hours but they rarely go inside the structures themselves, especially the ones that look structurally unsafe from the outside

the train graveyard at the eastern edge is usually your best bet for that post-apocalyptic feel, fewer eyes on it than the main halls. bring a mask or something, the dust from the old asbestos insulation can get kicked up pretty bad if you're climbing around. security tends to do a drive-by around 4pm then again at dusk, so plan around that if you want to avoid them

Honestly, Rummelsburg's a gamble. The whole place is *pretty* photogenic in that decaying, industrial way you're after, but security's unpredictable. I've heard the main buildings by the water are usually easier to access, less patrolled, and offer some fantastic shots. The further inland you go, the riskier it gets. Graffiti's definitely there, scattered throughout, not concentrated in one spot. Check online for recent photos; sometimes you can get a feel for current access points that way. Bring extra batteries, definitely, and maybe even a headlamp; it's darker in there than you'd think. Good luck, and stay safe!

If you're after hidden graffiti, check the old administrative building near the eastern fence. There's a whole room on the second floor covered in pieces from the early 2000s that most people miss. Just watch your step, the floor's rotten in spots.
