What bank, branch accepts a Tourist Visa to open a bank account?, 2024

I heard around Sukhumvit? I heard around Sukhumvit?
arrow_drop_up 2537 arrow_drop_down

honestly you might have better luck at the krungsri branch inside robinson sukumvit 19. i opened one there years ago on a tourist visa with just my passport and a hotel booking. they didnt even ask for a work permit or embassy letter. just be aware they'll prob give you a basic savings account with a low daily atm limit and no debit card at first. you might need to deposit a minimum of like 500 baht or something small

i'd check the scb (siam commercial bank) branch at asiatique, the one near the river. they're more chill than the sukhumvit branches and have opened accounts for people on tourist visas before if you show a thai phone bill and a hotel booking. the key is to go mid-morning on a weekday when it's quiet, the manager might come out and approve it on the spot. avoid the branch at silom complex, they'll just hand u a pamphlet and say no

bangkok bank at the asok branch near the terminal 21 has a reputation for being lenient with tourists, but it's hit or miss. i've seen people get turned away there too, so don't bank on it (pun not intended lol). instead try the kasikorn branch inside the emquartier mall on the 5th floor near the food court - they're used to dealing with foreigners and might accept a 6-month rental agreement as proof of address. bring your passport with the visa stamp and a copy of your hotel booking just in case, and expect to wait about 30 minutes while they call their manager

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

arrow_drop_up 210 arrow_drop_down

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
