What are beef meat prices at the regular grocery?

Title Title
arrow_drop_up 2551 arrow_drop_down

beef at the major chains like big c or lotus's runs about 250-350 baht per kilo for basic cuts, but the local markets are way cheaper if you're near one. the thai supermarkets like makro have whole muscle cuts for around 180-250 baht a kilo if you buy the big packs. just watch out for the "imported" labels at gourmet market or tops, that stuff jumps to 600+ baht for the same thing

honestly the price depends on where u shop. villa market has imported stuff like australian beef that'll run u 400-600 baht per kilo for steaks but their local stuff is closer to 200. if u want cheap go to khlong toei market early morning, like 6am, u can get local cuts for 100-120 baht per kilo but it's not fancy

fwiw the prices at makro are usually the best baseline for local beef, like 200-280 per kilo for chuck or brisket depending on the day. if you're near a foodland their meat section is decent too, around 300-350 for thai cuts and they have a loyalty card that knocks off a bit. the imported stuff at tops or gourmet market is fine for special meals but i'd skip it for everyday cooking, the local beef from thailand is actually pretty good for stews or stir fries

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
