so is one unable to go to the dispensaries now with the recent law change?

I booked a ticket for February last year and just read the news that Thailand is banning recreational weed again. I booked a ticket for February last year and just read the news that Thailand is banning recreational weed again.

You're fine for February, the ban is still just talk at this point. What people don't mention is that the real risk isn't the cops, it's your accommodation, so check your hotel or condo policy on smoking before you buy anything. If you're staying somewhere strict, grab a vape pen or edibles instead of flower, way easier to manage indoors. For shops, skip the Instagram-friendly places near Nana and head to the ones tucked into Soi 26 or around Phrom Phong, they're less flashy and won't give you a hard time. Also bring your passport, a lot of spots have started photocopying it even if the law hasn't changed, just to cover their own asses.

yeah you're fine for feb, the whole thing is still in limbo. even if they rush it through, enforcement is gonna be a mess for months. i'd just avoid the tourist trap spots on khao san, those are the ones that'll get spooked first. suk soi 11 is solid but honestly the smaller shops in ekkamai or thong lor are way more chill about everything, they've been operating under the radar forever. one tip, if a place looks too flashy with neon weed leaf signs, that's where they'll be strictest. keep cash on you too, some spots prefer it now to avoid paper trails.

The law hasn't actually changed yet, so as of now you can still walk into a shop and buy whatever you want. The proposal to ban recreational use is still being drafted and debated, and even if it passes, it likely won't take effect until mid-2025 at the earliest. That said, some dispensaries are already getting cautious, so don't be surprised if a few places ask for a medical card or seem more low-key than before. For February, you're almost certainly fine, just stick to well-known shops like those around Sukhumvit Soi 11 and avoid buying on the street.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
