if she likes discovering new places, check out 80/20 on charoen krung. it's thai tasting menu but with a real focus on local ingredients and forgotten recipes, kind of a love letter to the cuisine. the space is small and quiet, perfect for a birthday dinner. runs about 1500-1800 a head depending on the menu, and the staff usually do a little something for special occasions if you mention it when booking

since she's born and raised, maybe skip the tourist spots and try sorn on yen akat. it's a michelin-starred southern thai place that's notoriously hard to book, but if you can snag a table it's around 1800 per person for the tasting menu and the vibe is dead quiet, just focused eating. the space is small and warm, feels like a private dinner. just be ready to call exactly a month ahead at 10am, it books up fast.

if she's into japanese, try Sushi Masato on Sukhumvit 16. it's a tiny omakase spot, only like 8 seats, so it feels private and special. the chef sources fish from tsukiji and the rice is perfectly vinegared, quiet enough for actual conversation. just book ahead, they fill up fast for dinner

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
