Good bar areas to socialise with locals and farrangs? Other than Khoasan Rd.

Coming to BKK in 3 weeks time. Last time I only went to Khaosan Road (typical rookie mistake) to mingle with other backpackers and locals and was average at best. Too crowded, too loud to talk with people.

Is it worth trying RCA or any clubs or bars around Sukhumvit? I'll be staying in that area.

honestly skip RCA unless you're in the mood for bottle service and loud EDM, not great for chatting. sukhumvit soi 11 is decent but can get pretty packed with expats on weekends. if you want a mix of locals and farrangs without the tourist circus, try the little lane off soi 23 called sukhumvit plaza -- it's got a few lowkey beer bars where you can actually hear each other. also check out the rooftop at the above eleven on soi 11, it's a bit pricier but the crowd is chill and you get a solid view of the city.

RCA is more of a clubbing strip so if you're after conversation that's probably not it. Check out Ari instead, it's got a bunch of chill bars with a mixed crowd and way less touristy than Sukhumvit.

Yeah just hit up any of the sois off Sukhumvit like Soi 11 or Thonglor, plenty of rooftop bars and chill spots where both locals and expats hang out without the Khaosan chaos.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
