Anywhere exist like the old Dark Bar, Ekkamai?

I used to go to Dark Bar on Ekkamai soi 10 in some kind of small shopping complex. Simple interior, great DJs and cheap drinks but it closed a while back. Anywhere exist like that now? if you liked dark bar's grungy no-frills thing, have you been to bar none near on nut? it's a tiny hole in the wall behind a 7-eleven, black walls, a couple of couches, drinks are like 80 baht for a singha. djs are hit or miss but fridays they get decent local house guys spinning till late. gets a bit smokey inside but that's part of the charm

You're talking about the old complex that had the BBQ place and the laundromat, right? Dark Bar had that perfect dive energy. Check out The Wall on Sukhumvit 49, it's a basement spot behind a barber shop with concrete walls and a proper sound system. Drinks are 120 baht for a whiskey soda and the DJs play deep house and techno, no EDM nonsense. It's tiny though, gets packed by midnight on Fridays.

I get what you mean about Dark Bar, that place had a specific energy that's hard to find. You might want to try Tuba in Ekkamai soi 21, it's a bit more of a dive bar with a dark, moody interior and they do live jazz on some nights. Drinks are reasonable, around 120-150 baht for a beer, and the crowd is usually pretty chill during the week.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
