Any Agodans working here in strategy roles? I need your advice

the strategic planning roles at agoda are pretty siloed tbh. if you're looking at something in revenue strategy or marketplace, the team that matters sits on the 27th floor and they're all ex-mckinsey or bain, very spreadsheet heavy. the real networking happens at the food court in central embassy basement around 1pm, not the coffee shops. base pay is decent but the stock units are where the money actually sits, and they vest on a weird quarterly schedule that catches people off guard

yeah the strategy roles at agoda are pretty intense, especially on the pricing side. i'd try to connect with someone from their commercial team on linkedin, they're usually pretty open to chatting if you mention you're looking at similar work. just be ready for late nights if you're supporting us or eu markets

honestly i'd skip the facebook group and just go to one of their meetups. agoda sponsors a few industry talks at hubba-which is right next to their office on siam square. i went to one last month on hotel pricing models and it was like half agoda strategy people there. they're pretty chill after the beer starts flowing, good way to get real talk about team dynamics without the hr filter

also worth noting their strategy teams are split between commercial and corporate, and they operate pretty differently from what i've heard. the commercial side is more about daily revenue stuff while corporate is longer term projects. if you're leaning toward one or the other i'd tailor your approach

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
