I'll be living with my gf and 2 young cats. I'm thinking of staying somewhere more temporary for the first month, while searching for a place to rent for 6 months or more. I'm looking for some advice from people in similar situations on two things:

1. What should I be looking for the 1-month temporary place? Airbnb? hotels? I work from home so a studio style rental wouldn't be very convenient for 2 people and 2 cats, so I'm looking for something with some separation at least.

2. For the more long term rental, which areas would you recommend? My requirements would be fast internet access and somewhat close to public transportation as I will not drive there. Are there areas with more crime rate I should avoid?

yeah the cat thing is the real challenge here. most airbnbs will say no pets or add a huge fee so serviced apartments are the smarter play for month one. check out some of the newer condo buildings near thong lo that do monthly rentals through agencies like hipflat or renthub, they're usually more flexible about cats than hotels

for the long term i'd look at bang na or udom suk area instead of the pricier sukhumvit stretch. the bts green line extension goes all the way out there now, you get way more space for your money, and the internet is actually better because it's less congested. crime is basically nonexistent in bangkok compared to western cities, the bigger issue is soi dogs and uneven sidewalks if you're walking at night

honestly for the first month with cats i'd look at the newer condo buildings in phra khanong that do short term leases through the building's rental office itself. like the ones near W District have a few pet friendly floors and you can just walk in and ask for a one month contract, way less hassle than dealing with airbnb hosts who might flake on the cat thing. the rent will be like 15-18k baht for a one bedroom with a separate living area

for the long term, check out the area around talat phlu in thon buri. the bts dark green line runs through there, it's way cheaper than sukhumvit and you get fiber internet for like 600 baht a month from true or ais. the crime thing is overblown, just watch your phone in crowded market areas like anywhere else. the soi dogs around there are actually pretty chill if you dont bother them

For the first month, a serviced apartment is usually easier than an Airbnb for bringing cats. Places like Somerset or Ascott have pet-friendly serviced options and you can negotiate a monthly rate directly. You'll want at least a one-bedroom with a separate living area so you're not on top of each other while working.

For the long-term place, look along the BTS Sukhumvit line between On Nut and Ekkamai. That stretch has solid internet, plenty of malls and markets, and you're never far from a station. Crime isn't a big issue in Bangkok but I'd avoid the deeper soi off Sukhumvit past Soi 101 at night, they get quiet and poorly lit.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
