Hey guys,

Quite soon I am looking to do a SE Asia trip (first time!) for at least 2 months, starting in Bangkok. This trip will then be followed by moving to Australia on a year work visa. Really excited to do it but I am thinking I should store some stuff in a locker to travel lighter and be more in the moment, possibly including storing my laptop, in a safe storage in Bangkok so that I can collect on my return from a few countries. Has anybody any experience of storing luggage long term in Bangkok and how much did it cost roughly? Other favourite SE Asia spot recommendations gratefully received also!

yeah there's a few places near khao san road that do long term storage for like 100-200 baht a day depending on size. i'd recommend suitcase hostel on rambuttri alley, they have a locked room and i've left a bag there for a month before no issues. for the laptop just make sure you wrap it well and maybe get insurance if it's expensive, lockers aren't bulletproof. if you're heading south after, koh lipe is worth the boat ride but skip the full moon party crowds unless that's ur thing

try smiley hostel near silom road, they got a storage room for like 500 baht a month for a medium bag. just ask at the front desk, theyre pretty relaxed about it. for the laptop, honestly id bring it with u or leave it with a friend in bkk, the humidity in those lockers can be rough. if u want a quiet spot in thailand, chiang rai is way more chill than pai and the white temple is cool to see without the crowds

honestly if you're gonna be gone for a month plus i'd skip the daily rate lockers and look at the left luggage counters at mo chit bts or suvarnabhumi airport. they charge by the day but it's flat rate and the airport one is basically a warehouse with cctv, i've left a backpack there for three weeks paying like 300 baht a day but they do monthly rates if you ask. for the laptop specifically i'd keep it on you or ship it to a friend in australia ahead of time, lockers in bangkok get humid and i've heard of stuff growing mold in the rainy season. if you're hitting the islands try railay beach for climbing or just chilling, way less touristy than phi phi

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
