What happened to this building?

There is this building near Saphan Taksin BTS that looks abandoned or incomplete, however it still has ads on it that regularly change. It's called สาทร ยูนีค ทาวเวอร์, why is it like this? oh that building has a wild history. it was supposed to be a fancy condo tower but construction stopped around the 1997 financial crisis. the owner kept changing the ads on the scaffolding to make it look active so the bank wouldn't seize it iirc. the signs are basically a cover-up to avoid fines for being an eyesore. you can see it best from the skytrain platform at saphan taksin, the contrast with the river views is pretty funny

ah the famous ghost tower on sathorn. it's been like that since the 90s financial crisis, the developer ran out of money when the bubble burst and it just never got finished. the ads are probably a way for the owners to make some cash off the land without actually completing the structure. you can see it from the bts pretty clearly, kinda eerie at night when it's lit up but empty

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
