We have been to Hua Hin several times, also Pattaya but this might be too commercial for us. Any recommendations? We love Bangkok and have friends and activities there, but during our two weeks holiday would like to spend 4 nights away somewhere. Happy to travel 2-3 hours by driver.

bang saen is worth a look, it's only like an hour and a half from bangkok and has a long beachfront promenade perfect for walking. the wang saen suk flower market is nearby and it's a nice spot to wander in the morning. hotels like the bangsaen heritage have good pools and it's way less crowded than pattaya. plus you can swing by the sea turtle conservation center if nature's ur thing

honestly koh samet is solid but if you want something less ferry hassle, bang saen beach in chonburi is only like 1.5 hours from bangkok by car. it's got a nice long promenade for strolling, some decent seafood spots along the strip, and the bang saen aquarium is a fun little walk. not as quiet as samet but way less touristy than pattaya.

another option is khao yai if you swap beach for mountain nights, but for actual beach with good walking i'd say cha am's southern end is quieter than hua hin proper. the hotel pools out there are usually massive and empty on weekdays.

have you considered koh samet? it's about 2.5 hours by driver plus a short ferry ride, so not too bad. the beaches on the east side like sai kaew are lively but you can find quieter spots further north like ao prao which has a nice resort with a good pool. the island is small enough for walking and there are some market stalls along the main beach road in the evening. way less commercial than pattaya

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
