Best cheap eats near Ramkhamhaeng University in 2026?

Where do students actually eat cheaply nearby, and is the area around Ramkhamhaeng Soi 24 worth looking at for a room? Any tips on getting to the MRT from campus would help too.

soi 24 is fine for rooms but look closer to the soi than the main road, the far end gets loud with the late moo kata places. students eat around the ramkhamhaeng food stalls near the faculty gates & the shophouse khao man gai spots, 40 to 60 baht. for MRT, the yellow line at Bang Kapi is your best bet, motorbike taxi from campus is like 25 baht

Fair point on the far end of 24, those moo kata places run past midnight. One thing you missed is the morning market on Ramkhamhaeng 24 itself, khao tom and patongo for under 30 baht before 9am. Which side of the soi are the quieter rooms on?

yeah the moto guys by the north gate do it for 20 if u walk past the first row

khao man gai shophouses are solid but the real cheap stuff is the ku canteen on the 2nd floor of the student union building, 35 baht plates & open till 4. moto to the yellow line is more like 35 now ngl, they bumped it after the fare hike

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

the ku food court behind the arts faculty is where most students actually eat, rice plates run 35 to 45 & the portions are bigger than the shophouses. for rooms check the alleys off ramkhamhaeng 53 side too, quieter & often 500 to 1000 cheaper than 24. yellow line is easiest but the 168 bus down ramkhamhaeng works if u don't mind the traffic, drops u right at the campus gate

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

agreed on the portions, but the food court closes early so hit it before 2 or you're stuck with the shophouses. the 168 is fine off peak, mornings it crawls. where do u rate the boat noodle stalls on the 53 side?

Those 53 side alleys are a good shout, though the walk to the main road for the songthaew gets old in the rain. How far down 53 are you talking, past the wat or before it?

Before the wat, first two alleys past 7-Eleven.

Portions at the arts faculty court are big, but the stalls by the library annex do 50 baht plates with free soup, quieter at lunch.

annex soup queue empties by noon but the som tam cart out front does 40 baht plates with sticky rice if u want something lighter

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
