Bangkok long stay visa 2026: which permit do I need?

the non immigrant O-A is what most people here use for a few months, apply at the thai embassy before u fly, start maybe 6 weeks out cause the police clearance & medical cert take time.

Six weeks is about right, but O-A is a 1-year visa, not really a few-months thing. If you're genuinely only staying 3 or 4 months, the 60-day tourist visa plus a 30-day extension at Chaeng Wattana (1,900 baht) is simpler and skips the police clearance entirely.

Immigration Division 1 moved to Mueang Thong Thani last year

Sixty days is 1,900 too, same counter.

o-a needs 800k baht seasoned in a thai bank too

Worth flagging that O-A now requires health insurance from a Thai-approved insurer, which is the bit that actually trips people up at the counter.

honestly 6 weeks is cutting it close if the police clearance drags, i'd start 2 months out. also the visa you get is single entry, so if you wanna pop to Vietnam mid trip you'll need a re-entry permit.

Just get the e-visa online now, embassy queues are brutal.

Non-B visa if you've got a job lined up.

And that Non-B needs a work permit sorted after you land, which is a whole separate queue at the Ministry of Labour.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
