is 1200 baht/month normal for a gym in Bangkok 2026

Walk-in monthly rates on Silom side streets run 1000 to 1500 these days, so 1200 is fair, though a year contract should knock it to 900.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

year contracts only really work at the chain places, the sois off narathiwat knock maybe 100 off monthly if u pay 6 months up front

Those small sois rarely do annual anyway.

Ask if price drops for 6-month upfront.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

yeah worth trying, some of the small shops only do monthly or yearly, nothing in between. if they wont budge on 6 months just see if paying the full year upfront gets u a real discount

Six months upfront often only shaves 100 baht or so, so ask what the twelve month rate is instead.

1200 in Silom is pretty normal now tbh, rents there are just different from On Nut. But 800 to 1200 in a year is a big jump, so check if it includes anything extra like a towel or locker. Small local gyms off Silom often quote tourists more, so try going in person and asking in Thai, or get a Thai friend to call. Cash payment usually gets you a better rate too.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
