Getting home from Pulse Bangkok after 2am in 2026

Is it smarter to walk out to Lat Phrao for a metered taxi or just eat the Grab surge, and does the queue at the main soi actually thin out after 2am?

Walking to Lat Phrao for a metered taxi rarely beats the Grab surge once you factor in the 15 minute walk and the fact the main soi queue does thin noticeably after 2am.

yeah the soi queue is teh real tell

Once the queue clears, the win is walking five minutes north up Ratchadaphisek where passing taxis still run metered.

Heading north past the Siam Commercial Bank branch is where I flag them, right before the u turn. Drivers coming off Phahon Yothin are still on the meter and haven't switched to flat fares yet. Just watch for the motorcycle taxis parked at the corner, they'll block your view.

The metered taxis that actually stop for you are usually the ones heading toward Din Daeng, not the ones sitting empty outside the clubs.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

fair point on the walk, but the queue isnt always the bottleneck. some nights the grab pickup point itself is chaos with drivers cancelling on u. i'd give it 10 mins then just flag something passing on the main road

Cancellations spike around 2:15, not right at close.

Grab surge peaks right at 2am, wait it out.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and the 7-Eleven on Soi 3 is the better meet point anyway since drivers actually pull in there.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
